AFBR-8420EVK

         The Avago AFBR-8420EVK evaluation kit is designed to provide designers with a convenient means of evaluating Avago 100G CFP2 SR10 module. The evaluation kit supports the Avago AFBR-8420Z, a 10-channel pluggable, multi-mode parallel optic transceiver module for high-density 100G Ethernet and Optical Transport Network (OTN) applications.

The evaluation kit Includes the Avago AFBR-8420EVB evaluation board and an Avago designed and produced MDIO Master controller for MDIO communication to the CFP2 module. Note that the evaluation board can be ordered separately. The evaluation board includes the following:

  • 20 side-mounted SMA connectors designed to connect to all 10 differential Tx high speed lanes
  • 20 surface mounted SMA connectors to connect to all 10 differential RX high-speed lanes
  • MDIO interface for module control and digital diagnostics monitoring
  • Probe point access to low speed signals
  • CFP2 compliant cage, connector and heat sink

         The Avago AFBR-2CARxxZ Active Optical Cable (AOC) is part of a family of SFP+ products to serve 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE) applications. The letters “xx” of the part number AFBR-2CARxxZ denote the cable length in meters. The AFBR-2CARxxZ enables 10GbE equipment designs with very high port density based on the electrical and mechanical specification enhancements to the well known SFP specifications developed by the SFF committee. The specifications are referred to as “SFP+” to represent the enhancements over previous SFP specifications. The SFP+ AOCs have a cable length up to 20m.          The purpose of the Avago AFCT-5716Z evaluation kit is to provide designers with a convenient means of evaluating Avago SFP+ and SFP+ AOC fiber optic transceiver modules supporting 16G fiber channel (16GFC) and 10G Ethernet applications. The evaluation kit is compliant with ANSI Fibre Channel FC-PI-5 for high speed electrical and optical specifications. The AFCT-5716Z provides SMA connectors for high speed Tx and Rx signals. The low speed control signals such as Tx_Fault, Rx_LOS and Rate_Selects can be controlled by using on-board switches and test points. A connector for 2 wire serial interface to the module is also provided.
